Bavarian Royal Castles with end in Munich or Innsbruck

The ultimate fairy-tale castle Neuschwanstein of King Ludwig is the 13th most visited castle in the world. End the Tour either in Munich or Innsbruck and safe travel time.

The Neuschwanstein Castle was one of the very first tourist attractions in Europe, only 7 weeks after the death of Ludwig II in 1886, the first tourists came to visit the former private residence of the King. Today Neuschwanstein is one of the most popular of all the palaces and castles in Europe.

Book Tour

This tour is highly to recommend if you continue after your Salzburg either to Munich or Innsbruck. The difference to the other Royal Castle tour is the end location, you just simply safe quite a lot of travel time and also money in ending already at the next travel destination after Salzburg.

Ludwig II = "Mad" King Ludwig ruled Bavaria for 23 years until his death in 1886 at the age of 41. Rather than deal with politics in the Bavarian capital Munich, Ludwig frittered away most of his time at his family´s hunting palace, Hohenschwangau. He spent most of his adult life constructing his fanciful Neuschwanstein castle - much like a kid builds a tree house on a neighboring hill.

After being picked up at your Salzburg Hotel, you will leave Austria and head West of the City towards Munich, Germany. About half way to Munich, at Irschenberg you get off the "Autobahn" and continue on scenic roads to Bad Toelz further on to Fuessen. Here close to the town of Fuessen is the location of the world famous Ludwig Castle Neuschwanstein. The whole visit of the Castle will take about 2 1/2 hours. Before visiting the Castle your guide will take you with special busses to Mary's bridge. Take a stunning photo of the Neuschwanstein Castle with the Mountains and lakes in the background. From the bridge it will be about 15 minutes to the Castle entrance (you can only visit the castle if you book this tour in time, if you want to be sure send an E-Mail first - often booked out). After the short tour of 30 minutes through the castle you will walk down by your own to the meeting point (Neuschwanstein Car Park).

  • The Royal Castles Neuschwanstein & Hohenschwangau
  • Drive through typical Bavarian Countryside

The absolute highlight is definitely the view to the Castle and the fairy-tale setting of it. The setting of Neuschwanstein could not be more idyllic.

Capture a few more pictures of Hohenschwangau Castle and the close lake before heading to either Munich or Innsbruck.

Drop-off at your Munich or Innsbruck Hotel at the end of the day.
